Pilots Make Short Work Of Lancers

MISHAWAKA – Grace’s volleyball team dropped a three-set match at Bethel on Wednesday night.
The Lady Lancers fell 25-18, 25-19 and 25-19 to the Pilots (25-7, 10-6 Crossroads League).
The Lady Lancers have two matches remaining in the regular season. Grace’s next match is on Wednesday, Oct. 27, at home against Goshen at 7 p.m.
The regular season finale is Oct. 30 at Spring Arbor.
Grace’s offense was quieted by Bethel’s defense. The Lady Lancers (11-17, 4-12 CL) hit at a .137 percentage compared to a .183 clip from the Pilots.
Anna Frey led all players with 11 kills, adding three digs and a solo block. No other player for Grace was able to manage five kills in the defeat.
Gina Novotny tied for match honors with 14 digs, and she also passed out four assists. Mackenzie DeLong recorded three kills on four swings, Paige Vander Goot had five digs, and Jenna Mueller finished with three kills and two block assists.
Bethel had a pair of NorthWood graduates continue to help the cause, with Caroline Mullet giving 15 assists and three digs and Maddy Payne recording seven kills and four total blocks.
