WARSAW — The Warsaw Municipal Airport plans to host another veteran stand down event in 2022.
At its meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Warsaw City Hall, the Warsaw Board of Aviation Commissioners heard that news from Airport Manager Nick King.
“So the 2021 veteran stand down that we talked about last month went so well at the airport that they have already reached out and requested to see if we would be interested in hosting it for them again next year,” said King.
The 2021 Kosciusko Military Veteran Stand Down occurred in July at the airport. Goodwill Industries organized it. The event allows veterans to get help with clothing, jobs, health insurance and more.
“They are proposing July 22, 2022, from 3-6 p.m.,” continued King. “My staff loved it. I loved it. (Warsaw) Mayor (Joe Thallemer), you came out and were able to see the success. They said it was one of the best attended ones they’ve had this year and the space really did work very, very well. The Indiana Guard Reserve … helped with parking and I would like to host it again with the board’s permission of course. So we can get that date nailed down and then start the planning and do the ground stuff and get that security plan for you next year. If the board allows it, we can go ahead and put that date down and start planning for it,” he said.
The board agreed to the plan.
In other business, the board:
- Approved allowing Tom Farms to farm ground that the airport owns for another year. The board also approved giving others the chance to bid on farming the land for 2023.
- Approved purchasing three new snowplows and related parts for the airport for $26,457.
