Wawasee 3, Warsaw 2

It took two days, but Wawasee finished the job Wednesday in knocking out its county rival.

Started Tuesday but halted due to rain, three of the five courts had finished. Plenty of sun met the two as they returned to Syracuse Wednesday, and the Warriors closed out the one-point team win.

Joey Harper went the distance at No. 1 singles, beating Tristan Anderson 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. The doubles teams from Wawasee were both winners, Holden Babb and Grant Brooks at No. 1 beating Zach Nicholas and Nick Boren 6-2, 6-0, and No. 2 of Devon Kuhn and Ty Brooks topping Jack Reed and Patrick Stump 6-1, 6-3.

Warsaw won at two and three singles, Wil Boren beating Jay Duncan 6-0, 6-0 and Keller Bailey getting past Zeke Keim 6-1, 6-2.

Wawasee and Warsaw split the 10 JV courts.

Maconaquah 5, Tippecanoe Valley 0

Three Rivers Conference tennis in Akron had the visiting Braves roll over the Vikings.

Two singles and two doubles allowed just two games in 6-0, 6-1 scorelines, Hayden Maiben beating Cam Manuel in singles and Brandon Smiley and Haiden Thompson taking care of Tristyn Ragon and Brady Minix. At one doubles, Brennan Bailey and Walker Hays had their way in a 6-1, 6-2 final against Cooper Walls and Annikan Pettit. Mason Yoars beat Dylan Neese 6-4, 7-5 and Hayden Williamson topped Wyatt Reiter 6-4, 6-4.

Northridge 5, NorthWood 0

A day late, but the Panthers visited Middlebury for Northern Lakes Conference tennis after weather rained out Tuesday’s scheduled contest.

Ridge won four of the five courts in straights, led by a shutout from Kaleb Ellis over Wes Steiner. Brendan LeCounte also added another in a 6-1, 6-0 win against Charles Anderson, and Brandon Lomas made it three in singles with a 6-4, 6-1 win against Isaac Roberts.

In doubles play, Ridge’s Mason Martin and Zak Martin beat Nic Anderson and Karson Kirby 6-1, 6-4, and at one doubles, Collin Seegert and Evan Nay posted a 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-4 win against Brady Chupp and Chaz Yoder.

Ridge won the JV war 5-4.

Grace Men 6, Mt. Vernon Nazarene 0

Less than twenty-four hours after suffering their first loss of the season, the Lancers were back on the court in Crossroads League action. Grace swept by Mount Vernon Nazarene 6-0 in a make-up match from one postponed earlier in the season because of excessive heat. The contest was played at Swinney Park in Ft. Wayne.

Kye Barrett and Milan Savic captured No. 1 doubles by a 6-3 score, quickly followed by Jacob Gray and Nicolas Graber winning at No. 2 doubles 6-1.

Only four singles matches were completed to confirm the win for Grace. Francisco Margaria played at the No. 1 spot and won 6-1, 6-4. Ivan Antinori won 6-1, 6-0 at No.2 and Barrett cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3. In the other completed match, Graber won 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 5 position.

The Lancers (7-1, 6-1 CL) play a pair of non-conference matches on Friday, followed by the final regular-season League match at Marian on Saturday.

Grace Women 4, Mt. Vernon Nazarene 3

Playing without three top players, the Lancers battled through adversity to claim a 4-3 victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene and secure a spot in the top half of the Crossroads League standings. The match was played at Swinney Park in Ft. Wayne and was a make-up of a postponement early in the season.

The top three singles players for Grace were out, leaving Coach Marcus Moore with only five available athletes and little room for error. Mount Vernon Nazarene quickly secured the doubles point, meaning the Lancers would need to win four singles matches to come out on top.

Morgan Mast played in the No. 1 spot and pulled out a 7-6, 6-2 win, while Lauryn Riegsecker took the No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-4. Kiersten Martin had a huge comeback in the No. 3 contest, dropping the first set, but rallying to win 0-6, 7-6, 11-9.

After Grace dropped the No. 4 match in three tough sets, Gretchen Adams was on the court in the No. 5 singles position. She won the first set 7-6, then held on to take the second set 6-4 and confirm the win for the Lancers.

Grace (6-2, 5-2 CL) is now guaranteed no worse than the fourth-seed in next week’s Crossroads League Tournament. The Lancers complete league play with a trip to Marian on Saturday.
