Timeline From The Past: Burning Bed, Disco Contest, Train Derailment

Sept. 10, 1990 — Family disputes may have fueled the rage that allegedly led April Laine Thomas, 21, of Etna Green, to set her parents’ bed on fire while they were still sleeping in it.
Fortunately Donnabelle Thomas woke up and she and her husband, Russell, escaped their burning bed without injury.
Sept. 5, 1979 — Scott Christoffel and Anjie Christoffel, Warsaw brother and sister team, took first place in the recent disco contest at Clara’s Pizza King on East Winona Avenue. All winners include Jim Davies, Adrienne McBride, Scott Christoffel, Jeff Fosser, Anjie Christoffel, Kelly Stodder, Janie Shealy and Mike Walls.
Sept. 11, 1975 — New teachers in Warsaw Community Schools for the 1975-76 school year number 30 and include Mary Stamper, Frank Suchecki, Jean McCormack, Robert E. Turner, Stan Seiss, Daniel Beam and Daniel Groff.
Sept. 10, 1968 — The derailment of a Norfolk and Western freight train in South Whitley early today caused the temporary evacuation of residents when it was feared that the train carried poisonous chemicals and high explosives.
The 34-car derailment at 2:10 a.m. in the main section of town brought police and firemen to the scene.
