Wawasee Wins Westview Invite
Wawasee knocked off all four of its opponents to claim the title at Westview on Saturday.
Wawasee topped Bethany Christian, Eastside and Central Noble in two games each, then in the championship, bested South Bend Adams 25-23, 25-14.
The undefeated Warriors (9-0) enjoyed 42 kills, 16 digs and eight aces from Leslie Vazquez, 25 kills and 13 digs from Dylan Konieczny, 64 assists and eight aces from Amanda Allen and eight blocks from Abbi Burelison.
“This is a fun moment early this season,” stated Wawasee head coach Jeff Phillips. “Winning any tournament is worth it. Proving that 5-0 isn’t a fluke. Progress every step of the way.”
Tigers Win Three At Mishawaka
Warsaw rallied from a pool play loss to take three wins at the Mishawaka Invite.
After losing to Elkhart in three to open play, Warsaw rallied with wins over Marian in three, St. Joe in two and Mishawaka in two.
Stat leaders for Warsaw included Cora West with 31 digs and 15 aces, Kaylee Weeks with 39 kills and Avery Hales with 93 assists, 15 kills and six blocks. Hales would pass 2,000 career assists in the tournament and was also named to the All-Tournament Team.
NorthWood Repeats As Prairie Heights Champions
NorthWood once again won the Prairie Heights tournament title.
En route, the Panthers beat Lakeland and Fort Wayne Blackhawk, needing a 26-24 clincher in game two over the Braves. Against the hosts, NorthWood won 25-19, 25-19.
Stat leaders for the Panthers included Karis Bennett with 23 kills and three aces, Annika Bennett with 75 assists and three blocks, Macy Lengacher with 33 digs, and Sophia Barker with 20 kills and 19 digs.
NorthWood Wins Home Freshman Tourney
The host Panthers took care of business at its home frosh tourney.
Stats were not made available from the NorthWood championship run.
Wawasee was part of the tournament and beat Northridge in straight sets, but fell to NorthWood in three, 17-15 in the third set. Stat leaders for the Warriors included 16 assists and 11 aces from Natalie Pizana and seven kills from Kenzie Hackleman.
Warsaw Wins Michigan City Freshman Tourney
Warsaw went 4-0 to take home the trophy from the Michigan City brackets.
The Tigers beat Portage, Chesterton, Morgan Township and South Bend Adams all in straight sets, Adams 25-14, 25-9 to clinch.
Stat leaders for the Tigers included Allyson Anderson with 26 kills and 18 digs, Jillian Glaze with 17 digs and 13 aces and Maggie Hollon with 21 kills.
