Dock Craig
Dock Craig, 79, Larwill, passed away at 2:55 a.m., Friday, July 30, 2021 at Miller’s Merry Manor of Warsaw.
He was born Aug. 5, 1941, in Louisa, Ky. to Mary Elizabeth (Moore) Craig and William Frank Craig. Dock graduated from New Buffalo High School in New Buffalo, Mich. Dock met his future bride, Nancy Fridley, one great day while he was applying for a job at the Log Cabin Restaurant, which was her parent’s restaurant in New Buffalo, Michigan. Best job application he ever had in his life! Nancy was such a great name attached to a great lady that even his two brothers ended up marrying bride’s named Nancy. The great joke throughout their lives when they would all get together would be to say “go ask Nancy”!
Dock and Nancy were married Feb. 26, 1961, and they shared the joy of becoming parents, loved spoiling their granddaughter and great-granddaughters, all throughout the 60 years of marriage they shared together before he passed away. He was a hard worker his entire life, providing for his family working at Dwyer Instruments for over 40 years. The first 20 years he worked at the plant in Michigan City, and the last 24 years in South Whitley. Dock started off as an assembler and by the time he retired he was the plant manager. There was a time where he managed 50 women, some of whom still say he was the best boss they ever had.
He never brought his work home, and in his spare time he loved spending time with family, he simply adored his daughters, granddaughter, great-granddaughters, and his special dog, Lucky. Dock enjoyed the fellowship of his church family wherever they happened to be living; Wawasee Heights in Syracuse, First Baptist in Oswego, First Baptist in Monon, and most recently Bethel Baptist Church in Pierceton. Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Dock knew he was a die-hard Cubs Fan. He shared their victory and was thrilled when they won the World Series. He was definitely a good man, and he will forever be remembered as a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. Dock will be dearly missed.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife: Nancy Fridley Craig, Larwill; two daughters: Patricia Sluder, Niles, Mich.; Mary Grace Craig, Larwill; granddaughter: Amber Schroeder, Sawyer, Mich.; and two great-grandchildren: Emily and Nora Beck, Sawyer, Mich. He also leaves behind his sister: Gail Churchill, Michigan City. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
Dock’s life will be celebrated at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at Bethel Baptist Church, 1109 W. Market Street, Pierceton, and officiated by Pastor Jim Baughman. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 4-6 p.m. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
