News Release
SYRACUSE — The week of July 12 will be packed for children at the Syracuse Public Library, with numerous programs planned to unleash their creativity and imagination. During Messy Mondays, children will be making tie-dye t-shirts at 2 p.m. July 12. The whole family is then invited to attend family movie night at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 13. The film will be “The Gruffalo,” and refreshments will be served during it. At 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, children can swing by the library for storytime. Storytimes will also be returning to Lakeside Park at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 15; this partnership between the library and Syracuse Parks and Recreation will continue each Thursday in July. Finally, at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 16, children will be making marshmallow catapults.
Adults Encouraged To Stay Active
Adults are encouraged to stay active at the library. Mahjong meets at 10 a.m. each Monday, offering the perfect opportunity to learn and practice. The library owns three mahjong sets and four cards. The trail walk is another weekly program to join; it occurs at 9 a.m. each Thursday and meets near the library’s sign for a 30- to 40-minute walk to places around the library.
The adult book club will discuss “The Bitter Side of Sweet” by Tara Sullivan this week. Contact Becky Brower at [email protected] for an invitation to the Zoom book club discussion at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, or attend the in-person meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 15, in the library. An additional discussion will be held by the Pollinator Club at noon Wednesday, July 28, complete with a chocolate sampling. Copies of the book will be available at the library until the end of the month.
Fairy Jar
Teens can build a light-up fairy jar at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 15. Sign up at the teen summer reading table upstairs, or call the library at (574) 457-3022. The craft is open for other age groups if there is enough space and supplies.
