Kosciusko Board of REALTORS Announce Scholarship Winners
News Release
WARSAW – The Kosciusko Board of REALTORS® (KBOR) has announced its 2021 Scholarship winners.
From 1993 to date, KBOR has awarded $84,000 in scholarships. The KBOR scholarship is designed to identify and encourage bright and motivated students in Kosciusko County. In assisting with their educational expenses KBOR hopes to help these students achieve all their continuing education goals. REALTOR members are proud to help build a better community through programs such as this in hopes that these students make significant contributions in their chosen field. KBOR received applications from students throughout Kosciusko County and chosen by members of KBOR’s Community Service/Scholarship Committee. Congratulations to our three outstanding Kosciusko County 2021 KBOR Scholarship Winners.
Meghan Beer – Megan graduated from Wawasee High School and now attends Purdue University majoring in Athletic Training with the goal of continuing to graduate school to become a Physician’s Assistant. Meghan shared her aspirations, “I want to make other people’s lives better. I want to be a great health care provider and change lives.” Mr. Scott Lawrance, Clinical Professor, Purdue University has served as Megan’s professor for three years. Mr. Lawrance was excited to recommend Megan as he is a former KBOR scholarship recipient (1994). He shares, “As a former KBOR scholarship recipient, I know firsthand how your scholarship program helps support residents as they pursue their education. I firmly believe Meghan will have a strong influence in the lives of hundreds and perhaps thousands of people over the course of her career.” Meghan is the daughter of Kevin Beer and the late Laurie Beer.
Thanelie Helser – In addition to her monetary scholarship, Thanelie is the 5th Annual Winner of “The Spirit of the Heart” Award. This award honors REALTOR professionals who we have lost that touched their community throughout their lives. KBOR hopes to pass on its spirit of mission and purpose each year with this special award. Thanelie currently attends Warsaw Community High School. She will be attending Indiana University South Bend pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Nursing with an aspiration to eventually pursue a doctorate as a Nurse Practitioner. Per Thanelie, “I would love to work in a medical office in Warsaw, Indiana to give back to the community that opened their arms to me and helped shape me into the person I am. I have met many caring people in my school, church and workplace who supported and encouraged me. Without my community, I would not be where I am today.” Thanelie is the daughter of Ryan and Veronica Helser of Warsaw, Indiana.
Joshua Metcalf – A soon-to-be graduate of Wawasee High School, Josh will be attending Trine University, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Joshua’s plans are to join ROTC and graduate as an officer in the Air Force. Joshua’s explained his career path, “While trying to determine how I could be an engineer and serve my country, I realized that the Air Force is constantly looking for engineers; being a highly technical branch of the military, it seemed like a good fit. I would be able to utilize my skills as an engineer while helping to defend my country.” Jason Scott, Wawasee High School Teacher and Head Swim Coach shared with the Scholarship Committee, “Given his athletic prowess, his natural leadership ability, his compassionate heart, his work ethic, and servant attitude, I believe that Joshua is a well-rounded student who will excel in whatever academic pursuit he chooses.” Joshua is the son of Scott and Angela Metcalf of Leesburg, Indiana.
