Several Area Tennis Stars Among IHSTECA Postseason Awards

INDIANAPOLIS – The postseason awards for girls tennis are rolling in for the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association (IHSTeCA).
Academic All-State leads off the honors, where players had to earn at least a 3.8 GPA (on a 4.0-scale), earn at least a 1280 SAT/27ACT and play in 50 percent of their respective team’s contests.
Among the 91 honored as Academic All-State were NorthWood’s Ashlyn Feller and Kate Stillson, Triton’s Maddie Ritchison, Warsaw’s Paige Zawadzki and Wawasee’s Tate Cowan.
Other area recipients include Bremen’s Katie Barnes, Kelsey Lawmaster and Courtney Lawmaster; Culver Academy’s Becky Young; Mishawaka Marian’s Kathleen Hicks; Northridge’s Peyton Kieper, Maia Schmucker and Riley Wheatley; South Bend Clay’s Sydney Maurer and Lydia Talcott; South Bend St. Joe’s Katherine Bellia; and Wabash’s Lingjun Fu.
Additionally, teams were awarded for their combined work in the classroom. To earn team distinction, the program must carry a cumulative 3.6 GPA. Area teams to earn the distinction were Bremen, Concord, Culver Academy, East Noble, Goshen, Mishawaka Marian, Northridge, NorthWood, Peru, Plymouth, South Bend Clay, Warsaw and Wawasee.
A host of players were named All-District, which are sectioned into eight districts.
From District 1 include St. Joe’s Molly Bellia, Katherine Bellia, Ashi Amalnathan, Alayna Campbell, Tea Lazareto, Dani Graham and Gracie Velasco; and Penn’s Marly Kryder, Mandy Baker and Jamie Hurst. St. Joe coach Bill Mountford was named the District Coach of the Year.
From District 2 include Fairfield’s Addison Mast; Goshen’s Lucy Kramer, Kathryn Detweiler and Joya Drenth; and Northridge’s Riley Wheatley, Peyton Kieper, Brynne Gayler and Lilah Dean.
From District 3 include Plymouth’s Miranda German, Aubrey Vervynckt, Bella Kain, Taylor Delp and Ellie Jones; Bremen’s Kelsey Lawmaster, Courtney Lawmaster, Chloe Miller, Katie Barnes and Grace Meyer; and Peru’s Mackey Hyde, Molly Gray and Cate Wolfe. Bremen coach Brita Miller was named the District Coach of the Year.
IHSTeCA is planning on releasing its All-State awards later this month.
