Commentary: Derek Chauvin And Mob Justice
By David Brown
U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, in Minnesota during the trial of Derek Chauvin, said, “We’re looking for a guilty verdict, and we’re looking to see if all of the talk that took place and has been taking place after they saw what happened to George Floyd — if nothing does not happen, then we know that we’ve got to not only stay in the street, but we have got to fight for justice. But I am very hopeful, and I hope that we’re going to get a verdict that says guilty, guilty, guilty. And if we don’t, we cannot go away.”
Whatever you think of Derek Chauvin and his actions during the death of George Floyd, he is an American citizen. He has the same rights as every other American, including the right to a fair trial and the presumption of innocence. The standard guiding all legal matters in America is the presumption that you are innocent until proven guilty. Maxine Waters’ comments during the trial of Derek Chauvin demonstrate her complete disregard for our legal process and her desire to stoke racial tension. The media has lied about the death of George Floyd since the very beginning.
They twisted the narrative and wove a tale that put race ahead of everything. They made the story about the color of George Floyd’s skin for the sole purpose of serving their agenda. No evidence exists which demonstrates to any degree that the interaction between Floyd and Chauvin had something to do with race. Whatever you think about the evidence of murder, the narrative that Chauvin killed Floyd because he was black is false. Worse than that, as if lying about facts in a murder trial were not enough, the lies were designed to make America more divided. The media and the left desired to make us hate each other, to force us into separate camps, and to cause riots in the streets.
The words of Maxine Water demonstrate this perfectly, her words are a call to violence. David Dorn died because the left turned George Floyd’s death into a race issue, he died because the left intentionally caused mob violence, he died because people like Maxine Waters hate America so much they would rather see the nation burn than thrive.
What is the standard that must be met to convict someone during a murder trial? The answer, proof beyond a reasonable doubt. There were many problems with the trial and all of them should be very concerning to any American who desires a fair and impartial justice system. Did the prosecution prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Derek Chauvin intended to kill George Floyd? The answer is no. Derek Chauvin only resorted to placing a knee on the neck area of Floyd after intense resistance to arrest. No evidence exists which proves intent on Chauvin’s part and that alone should have been enough for him to be found not guilty. Did the prosecution prove that it was in fact Derek Chauvin’s actions that caused the death of George Floyd? The answer is no.
The toxicology reports show that Floyd had a lethal level of fentanyl in his system in addition to meth. George Floyd told police he could not breathe long before any struggle ensued and was acting irrationally throughout the entire interaction with the police officers.
Several more factors point to the trial being a miscarriage of justice: the actions and statements of Maxine Waters and President Joe Biden were enough to demand a mistrial, the failure of the judge to move the trial out of the city, and the failure of the judge to sequester the jury. Separately, each of these would suffice to render the trial unfair.
When combined together, they represent a massive miscarriage of justice and one that should frighten every American.
What happened to Derek Chauvin was not justice, it was mob injustice. A process run by the media and liberal politicians to stoke racial fire and cause violent chaos. George Floyd means nothing to them, he is but a pawn to their end game. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made that very clear when she publicly thanked George Floyd for dying in order to end inequality.
“Never let a tragedy go to waste” is the current motto of the Democratic Party and their actions around the death of George Floyd prove the depths of their depravity. The insertion of race into the situation shows how hostile the left is to America. Derek Chauvin was condemned to be found guilty the moment the trial started, and whatever you think of the man, that is antithetical to every guiding principle of our justice system. No man walks onto the stand guilty, not in America, anyway. The values upon which our nation was founded are being ignored and that should terrify us all.
