WARSAW – City officials are warning motorists of a temporary slow-down on East Center Street after a traffic control box across from the Kroger store was destroyed in a traffic accident Thursday night, May 20.
The one-vehicle accident happened near the intersection of East Center and Cleveland streets shortly after 5:30 p.m., but exactly what happened was still unclear Friday morning.
Somehow, a Honda Odyssey apparently careened out of control, struck an electrical control box near the intersection before skidding through the parking lot of Fire Station No. 2 and coming to rest on the east side of the station.
The city issued a news release warning that a four-way stop sign will be used at the intersection until the box is replaced.
“We were informed it is possible this could take several weeks to fix,” said Brad Kellar, public information officer for Warsaw Police.
He said motorists should consider alternate routes in the meantime.
The vehicle sustained heavy frontend damage. The name of the driver and the extent of any injuries were not available as of early Friday morning.

The electrical box was sheared from its base and came to rest just a few feet from Center Street in the parking lot of Fire Station No. 2. InkFreeNews photo by Dan Spalding.
