AKRON — The Tippecanoe Valley FFA forestry team has placed first in the state practical forestry contest.
On Sunday, April 25, the team took the top spot in the contest at the Indiana FFA Leadership Center in Trafalgar. That earned them a trip to the national contest to be held in October in Indianapolis.
In addition, team member Jesse Scott was high individual in the state competition. Other members are Isaac Shafer, who was seventh high individual; Lucas Parson, who was ninth high individual; and Ashton Irwin, who was 11th high individual.
In the state competition, members individually competed in timber cruising for board feet, timber stand improvement, map interpretation, leaf identification and forestry tool identification. As a team, they had to identify chain saw parts and tree diseases and complete wood identification.
