ANGOLA – A former Wawasee gymnast put her talent to good use this season.
Aundreya Wegener, a 2020 Wawasee graduate, was on the short path to not having an inaugural season of acrobatics and tumbling at Trine University. Needing knee surgery in October, her freshman season was in doubt, but her determination to return to the team’s first go-round in the sport had Wegener not only come back, but make an impact.
For her work with the team, Wegener was named the team’s MVP. After the surgery had her miss four months, Wegener came back to compete in March and finished the season healthy and a key member of the inaugural season of Trine Acro.
The team, coached by Kati Horstmann, is overseeing the program as it begins, which is a floor-based competition program that caters to gymnasts and competitive cheerleaders. The program at Trine, per Horstmann, brought in 18 girls the first year, most from Indiana but also a pair from Texas.
