The Tippecanoe Valley track teams shook off the early-week snow and got back to spring weather, finally get a meet in on a brisk Thursday evening.
The boys team placed first in a three-way Three Rivers Conference battle with conference rivals Northfield and Wabash. Rex Kirchenstein ran away in the sprints, taking firsts in all four of his events including the 100 in 11.69 and the 200 in 23.2, as well as in the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
The boys 4×800 team also snagged a first place finish. Benton Nellans took second with a strong race in the 110 hurdles. Once again, the field events collected the boys several points, taking first in shot put, long jump and high jump.
“The boys continue to improve every meet,” said head coach Jenny Moriarty.
On the girls side, Wabash took the overall win, with Tippecanoe Valley finishing third. The team is still down a few runners and unable to fill all the events the girls still had a strong showing, according to Moriarty.
Sidney Wagner took first in the 400 with a time of 1:07. The girls 4×800 grabbed first with the return of Delaney Wagner off the injury list, Maria Henderson, Ella Meyers and Chesnee Miller. Miller also ran away with the win in the 3200.
Valley is back at it tonight at the always fun North Miami Relays at 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Tiger tracksters took home two Northern Lakes Conference victories in a three-way with Mishawaka and Concord.
Warsaw race winners included Lily Boston in the 100 (13.28), Delaney Silveus in the 800 (2:41.04), Amanda Lusinde in the 1600 (5:50.75), Whitney Shepherd in the 3200 (12:49.78), Marin Hart in the 100 hurdles (15.66) and the 300 hurdles (50.60), and all three relay teams in the 4×100, 4×400 and 4×800.
In the field, event winners included Hart in the high jump (5-0), Josie Niebbia in the pole vault (10-03) and Ericka Brigg in the long jump (15-09).

Northridge Boys 109, Wawasee 23
The Tigers, Warriors and Raiders hooked up in three-way Northern Lakes Conference battle, staged at Wawasee on Thursday evening.
Warsaw split their evening, defeating Wawasee and falling to Northridge. Wawasee also came up short against Northridge, which finished the evening undefeated.
Warsaw event winners included Jeremy Johnson in the 400 (51.76); Tanner Stiver in the 800 (1:58.98) and the 1600 (4:29.29); and Andreew Frush in the 110 hurdles (16.06) and the 300 hurdles (42.00) In field events, Tiger Cameron Harness took top honors in the high jump, clearing 6-2, while teammate Will Wells won the discus with a throw of 141-11.
Wawasee’s only event winner on the evening was Mason Pussell in the pole vault, easily besting the competition by clearing 12-0.
