CLAYPOOL – Benjamin Sanders knew there was a problem with motorists speeding along Section Street.
Now, Claypool’s town marshal has the documentation that breaks down the problem hour-by-hour and he plans to do something about it.
Sanders recapped the traffic study Tuesday night during the town’s council meeting.
Speed limits in the town are either 25 mph or 30 mph.
According to the seven-day study, motorists on average are leaving town on Section Street (CR 700S) and traveling 47 mph.
Incoming traffic from the west averaged 51 mph.
Sanders said they will be patrolling areas at certain problem times that were noted in the traffic study.
In discussing traffic patterns, Sanders suggested he knows some of the problem drivers.
He said he’s worried about children and those legally using golf carts in town and the potential impact speeding motorists can have.
“It’s one of those nagging problems. We have a lot of kids during the summertime … and those kinds of speeds worry me,”
Sanders said.
In other items, the town plans to apply for money through the Federal Government’s American Recovery Program.
Council President Ben Stage said they will form a committee to determine how to use money from the program if it is awarded to the town.
The town also voted to sell an old Crown Victoria to the highest of four bidders. The winning bid was $2,800.
