Diamond Results: April 6
Rochester Softball 4, Triton 3
Triton got its season going Tuesday afternoon at Rochester, and saw its opener end in heartbreak.
After Rochester led off the game with a run on a wild pitch, Triton answered back with three runs in the fourth on RBIs from Jolie Groves, Lauren Snyder and Lena Doll. Rochester got one back on an RBI single from Carlee Blackburn, then after holding Triton off the board in the seventh, put its first two runners on for Kylie Coleman, who sent the Zebras home victorious with a two-run, walk-off double.
Abbey Viers and Taren Yates each had two hits for Triton (0-1), and Doll struck out six in the complete game in the circle.
Marian Softball 10, Grace 2
Marian 14, Grace 0
The No. 6-ranked Marian Knights proved too much for Grace’s softball team on Tuesday.
Grace lost 10-2 and 14-0 in Indianapolis, falling to the league-leading Knights (26-8, 15-2 Crossroads League).
Marian’s offense was steady in the opener. The Knights scored either one or two run in every inning in the 10-2 victory.
Grace did have six hits — all singles. The Lady Lancers did score twice in the top of the fifth. Jeri Ellis and Jaden Cardoso drove in runs on back-to-back at-bats, plating Olivia Hess and Bethany Gardner.
Laikyn Lowe hit 2 for 3 in the game, and Ellis was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
The second game was much different. The Knights erupted for 13 runs in the bottom of the first and finished the game with a run-rule victory.
Cardoso had the only hit of the five-inning game for Grace.
The Lady Lancers return home on Saturday, hosting Bethel for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Coach Phil Dick Field.
