West Noble Boys 100, Wawasee 23
Wawasee’s running Warriors took to their home oval Tuesday night, but the night didn’t prove to be very successful for the green and gold. West Noble made the trip to Wawasee and took home a resounding non-conference victory.
The home team found only a few victories, led by Ben Haines in the 800, who finished in 2:11.43, less than two seconds quicker than his Charger foe. Mason Shoemaker also nipped the competition in the 100 hurdles, finishing .62 seconds ahead of West Noble’s Nathan Shaw.
Those proved to be the only two victories that fell on the Wawasee side of the evening’s ledger. Haines also managed a second place finish in the 1600, as did the 4×100 and 4×400 relay units. In field events, Wyatt Slusher managed second place finishes in both the shot put and discus.
On the JV circuit, Warrior winners included Landon Sanders in the 100 and Trey Rollins in the 400.
“Our throwers had an OK day,” said Wawasee skipper Frank Pizona. “Distance was the same and field events went as planned. We need to remain focused in our personal goals. We will get there by conference.”
Wawasee drops to 0-3 on the season with their next contest coming after spring break on April 15.
West Noble Girls 78, Wawasee 52
The Warrior ladies came a little closer to their guests on the ladies’ side of the scoresheet. Wawasee found winners in six events. Kaydence Shepherd broke the tape in the 100 in 14.77. Dylan Konieczny took home three top finishes, two on the track and one in the field. She won both the 100 and 300 hurdles events in 18.09 and 52.70, respectively. She also topped all competition in the high jump, clearing 5’0″ to claim victory.
Wawasee also took home top honors in two other field events, with Alissa Gill winning the long jump with a mark of 15-0, while teammate Emma Yoder hurled the discus 111-4 to beat the field.
“The girls had a really good night,” said Warrior head coach Jose Lopez. “(There were) some personal records for some of the kids. I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do later in the season.”
The ladies are scheduled to open their conference schedule at Concord on April 14.
