Woman Arrested For Driving Under The Influence, Causing Injuries
Staff Report
CLAYPOOL — A Nappanee woman was recently arrested for driving under the influence and causing a vehicle accident, injuring herself and another person.
Kathleen Lynn Losee, 29, 801 S. Elm St., Nappanee, is charged with causing serious bodily injury while operating a vehicle, a level 5 felony.
On Nov. 5, 2020, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s officer responded to a two-vehicle accident on SR 15, north of Claypool. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with Losee, who said she was inside one of the vehicles during the accident but that somebody else was driving.
According to court documents, she initially refused to name the driver, then gave a name; Losee then gave a different name that could not be understood by the officer. She appeared to be under the influence at the time of the accident, with slurred speech and red eyes.
The officer noticed Losee had an abrasion on the left side of her neck, which is an injury commonly noticed on a driver wearing a seat belt. She also had a bruise on the top of her right foot, presumably from the brake pedal during the collision. The officer later learned a passenger in the second vehicle involved had a compound fracture to her leg.
Losee was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment. A blood draw was conducted on Losee and analyzed.
Later that day, Losee was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail for her involvement in a separate, unrelated incident to the crash. During a phone call with a relative, Losee said she was involved in an accident and asked if they had seen the condition the vehicle was in. At no time did Losee say that anyone else was in the vehicle with her or that she wasn’t driving the vehicle at the time.
On Dec. 21, 2020, the officer received the results of Losee’s blood draw. The results showed Losee had methamphetamine and THC in her system at the time of the accident.
Losee was arrested for this case on March 17, with a $10,250 surety and cash bond.
