Man Accused Of Molesting Child Twice
Staff Report
KEWANNA — A man was recently arrested after allegedly molesting a child on two separate occasions.
Travis Avery Burnett, 42, Kokomo, is charged with child molesting, a level 1 felony; and child molesting, a level 4 felony.
On Feb. 24, a woman met with a Department of Child Services caseworker and a Fulton County Sheriff’s officer at the Kokomo Police Department for an interview. The woman said a child reported being molested by Burnett.
According to court documents, the child said they were at a home in Kewanna during the winter of 2019 and were almost asleep when Burnett entered their room and inappropriately touched them. Burnett allegedly took the child to his room and continued the inappropriate touching.
The child also described another incident that occurred in June 2020 in Monticello. The child said they were alone in a kitchen when Burnett entered and inappropriately touched them.
In February, Burnett was interviewed at the Kokomo Police Department. When confronted about the allegations, Burnett denied they ever happened, saying the child was always in trouble. While talking about the incident in Monticello, Burnett denied inappropriately touching the child.
Burnett did admit to being left-handed. In their report, the child discussed Burnett using his left hand to inappropriately touch them.
Burnett was booked in the Fulton County Jail on March 4. A jury trial for this case is set to take place in October.
