Trojans, Cougars Advance To 1-A Finals
Triton and Lakeland Christian each won their semi-final basketball games Friday night to advance in their respective sectionals in the Class 1-A tournament.
Triton 59, Oregon-Davis 41
The Trojans spread it around in a win over its western neighbors. After falling behind 14-9 in the first quarter, Triton rolled a 16-3 bowling ball in the second quarter to take an eight-point lead into the locker room. After both teams played to 16 points in a high-scoring third quarter, the Trojans pulled away to make the finals at Culver.
Four Trojans scored in double figures. Tyson Yates led the way with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists, Bruce Johnson had 13 points and six rebounds, and both John Gardner and Ashton Oviedo had 12 points, Oviedo chipping in seven rebounds.
The Bobcats (8-12) had Dylan Murphy lead the team with 15 points and four boards.
Triton (18-5) will get a rematch with Argos (18-5) in the championship, the Dragons putting out Culver 31-20.
Lakeland Christian 60, Northfield 47
The Cougars set up a rematch of last year’s sectional championship with a win over the Norse at North Miami.
Seth Martin had a big first half to get LCA going, scoring 13 of his 19 in the opening half. Silas Gagnon also had a hot start, scoring eight of his 15 early on. Cam Shepherd was part of LCA closing the game out, scoring nine of his 11 points in the fourth, a quarter that saw LCA put the ice in the bucket with 21 points to eliminate the Norse.
LCA (11-10) will take on Southwood (14-10) in the Saturday championship, the Knights a 93-19 winner over the host Warriors. LCA is looking for its first sectional championship in program history.
