Triton 44, Knox 30
Triton turned it on in the second half to clinch a share of the Hoosier North Athletic Conference title Friday night at Harold Weinberg Gymnasium.
Triton led just 18-16 at the half, but extended the lead to four after three quarters and outscored Knox 15-5 in the fourth to finish at 6-1 in the HNAC, tied with LaVille as conference champions. Knox entered the night 5-1 in the conference, but saw 17 turnovers equate into 16 Trojan points.
Ashton Oviedo led Triton (16-5) with 13 points and John Gardner added 12 points on 6-7 shooting. Tyson Yates added eight points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Cade Short paced the hosts (9-12) with 14 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Gunner Wagner offered 10 points and nine rebounds.
Chandler Westafer sent in 11 points and Jacob Pitney had 10 points as the Trojan JV took down Knox, 38-24. Cameron Shively added eight points and five boards for the visitors.
NorthWood 56, Elkhart 51
NorthWood converted 13-20 free throws in the fourth quarter to put away Elkhart at the historic and venerable North Side Gym Friday night.
NorthWood hadn’t attempted a free throw until the fourth, and while it hit just one field goal in the fourth, did neough to hold off the Lions.
Cade Brenner had 20 points for the Panthers (13-8) and Ian Raasch had nine points in the victory. Cooper Wiens added seven points.
Donovan Johnson had 15 points for the Lions (11-11) and Cam’Ron Daniels added 12 points.
