LAGRANGE – A battle for early bragging right was on the line Saturday at the annual gymnastics halftime show, the Lakeland Invite. DeKalb has the floor.
The Barons edged out Angola by a quarter-point, 107.725-107.70, to win the Invite, which indirectly signifies the halfway point of the gymnastics season.
After starting with a .5 lead after vault, Angola had a better show on bars by 1.85, but DeKalb was 1.8 points better on beam. DeKalb’s floor score of 27.3 bettered Angola’s 27.175 to push the Barons over.
Fort Wayne Carroll was third at 105.725 and Elkhart was fourth at 102.525.
Wawasee scored a 92.85 to place seventh and Warsaw’s 61.1 landed the Tigers tenth.
The Lakeland Invite features nearly all of the participants at the Wawasee sectional, and a sneak peak at Fort Wayne Carroll, which would be a regional opponent for those advancing to the Huntington regional.
Individual results from the meet were not immediately provided.
