Herbert Lester “Herb” Brandt
Herbert Lester “Herb” Brandt, 69,of rural Larwill, died at 11:10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021, at his home. He had been in failing health.
He was born Oct. 29, 1951, in Fort Wayne, a son of the late Raymond R. and Jeanette V. (Wiech) Brandt. Growing up in Fort Wayne, he completed Anthony Wayne Elementary School and graduated from Elmhurst High School in 1970.
On Aug. 7, 1971, he married Rebecca J. Weber. They made their home in Fort Wayne and then South Whitley. For the past 25 years, they have lived in rural Larwill.
A machinist by trade, he worked for Biomet in Warsaw for over 20 years.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, cutting wood around his property, and hunting deer in the fall. An accomplished handyman, he could fix or repair almost anything around the house. Often, he could be found tinkering in the barn. A loyal Christian, he found peace and comfort regularly reading the Bible. His grandkid became his joy, visiting whenever possible.
Surviving is his wife of 49 years, Rebecca; children, Stephanie J. (Chris) Miquelon of Columbia City and Daniel C. Brandt of Casper, Wy.; grandchildren, Zach (Jessica) Geiger and Courtney R. Miquelon, both of Columbia City; and four sisters, Mary Curtis, of Casper, Wy., Sharon Mettert, of Auburn, Judy Mettert, of Fort Wayne and Nancy Adams, of Union, Kentucky.
Additionally, he was preceded in death by sisters Carol Irmsher, Marilyn Metter, and three siblings
The funeral service is 11 a.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Pierceton. Visitation is 10 a.m. until the service Monday at the funeral home.
