Wadding, Groninger Take Hoops POW Awards

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top athletes from January 4 through 10. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.
The weekly winners had ties in achievement via the other’s respective programs.
Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Dayton Groninger, Indiana Wesleyan
Groninger shot 65.4 percent from the floor and netted 22.0 points per game in Indiana Wesleyan’s wins over Grace and Bethel. The senior forward also averaged 5.5 rebounds per game and made four-of-eight looks from beyond the arc in the two games.
In Groninger’s dominant showing against Grace last Wednesday, the Warsaw grad made 10-16 field goals, registering 26 points, six rebounds and two assists. The 26 points were a season-high. Groninger had another 18 points in IWU’s blowout win over Bethel.
Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Jake Wadding, Grace
Wadding highlighted Grace’s 91-87 upset win over top-ranked Indiana Wesleyan, scoring 21 points on eight-of-12 shooting and drilling three triples in four tries. The freshman also grabbed four rebounds and added one assist to help end IWU’s 26-game win streak.
His 21 points were a career high, having set his mark with 15 then 16 points in the prior two games, both wins, that has Grace on a current three-game win streak.
