Warsaw Boys 131, Plymouth 29
In the swimming version of the NLC battle for US 30, the Tigers left no doubt as to who controlled the pool. Warsaw registered 1-2-3 finishes on the night in several events, keeping the Pilgrims in the proverbial shallow end of the pool for the entire event.
First/second place finishers included Ian Wihebrink (2:00.67) and Ayrton James in the 200 freestyle; Cooper Archer (2:13.83) and Wrigley Starkweather in the 200 individual medley; Michael Ray (23.02) and Gabe Bowers in the 50 freestyle; Nathan Taylor (58.92) and Bowers in the 100 butterfly; Ray (51.16) and James in the 100 freestyle; Taylor (5:25.81) and Bishop Hudson in the 500 freestyle; and Archer (1:04.60) and Elijah Zaugg in the 100 backstroke.
The Tigers also finished in the top two slots in the 200 medley relay, with the B-team of Zaugg, Wihebrink, Taylor and Kaden Rife (1:59.47) narrowly edging out their A-team counterparts of Archer, Phoenix Klein, Hudson and Ray by 13/100 of a second.
First place finishes also were turned in by Jayce Sawyer in one-meter diving (222.90) and Wihebrink (1:03.03) in the 100 backstroke. The 200 freestyle relay team of Archer, Wihebrink, Bowers and Ray (1:37.98) and the 400 freestyle relay team of Bowers, James, Zaugg and Taylor (4:03.31) also turned in first place efforts.
Warsaw Girls 133, Plymouth 52
Warsaw also showed their swimming dominance in the girls portion of the evening, easily defeating their Plymouth counterparts. The Lady Tigers also swept several of the evening’s events.
First/second place finishers included Marissa Howett (2:10.26) and Gracie Willig in the 200 freestyle; Maddy Morgan and Morgan Howett in the 200 individual medley; Macelyn Marcuccilli (27.30) and Lillian Boston in the 50 freestyle; Morgan (1:09.72) and Mariana Malagon in the 100 butterfly; Marissa Howett (1:00.23) and Gracie Scholl in the 100 freestyle; Willig (5:58.03) and Rachel Doyle in the 500 freestyle; and Malagon (1:09.62) and Doyle in the 100 backstroke.
Warsaw also took the top two spots in the 400 freestyle relay with Madi Johnson, Ariel Strange, Willig and Doyle (3:49.24) beating Scholl, Boston, Malagon and Marissa Howett.
Marcuccilli (1:18.95) also finished first in the 100 breaststroke. The 200 medley relay team of Doytle, Marcuccilli, Morgan and Boston (2:05.94) and the 200 freestyle relay combo of Marcuccilli, Johnson, Marissa Howett and Boston (1:49.09) touched the tape ahead of their competition., as well.
Northridge Boys 96, Wawasee 84
The Raiders had just enough depth and talent to outlast their visitors from Wawasee in the first swim meet of 2021 for both squads. In the 12 contested events, the Warriors were able to come up with four first place finishes to go with eight second place touches.
Blue ribbons were earned by Nate Kryder in the 200 freestyle (1:54.90), Joshua Metcalf in the 50 freestyle (24.75), Devon Kuhn in one-meter diving (171.85) and the 200 medley relay quartet of Nate Harper, Karlson Hand, Kryder and Metcalf.
Second place finishes were turned in by Harper in the 200 individual medley, Harry Doss in one-meter diving, Kryder in the 100 butterfly, Blake Roose in the 500 freestyle, Harper in the 100 backstroke and Hand in the 100 breaststroke. The 200 freestyle relay team of Hand, Stone Shipley, Cade Garden and Camden Powell, as well as the 400 freestyle relay team of Kryder, Roose, Metcalf and Harper, each had second place efforts in their races.
Northridge Girls 143, Wawasee 33
On the girls side of the evening, the overall result wasn’t nearly as close, with the Lady Warriors falling to powerhouse Northridge by 110 points.
Wawasee did not register any first place touches and could manage only two second place finishes, one from Alexis Mishler in the 50 freestyle and the other by Cammy Kryder in the 100 freestyle. Both ladies missed first place by less than a half second in their respective races.
