Goshen 46, Warsaw 30
Warsaw found some mat success at Goshen on Wednesday, but ultimately didn’t have enough juice to pull out a Northern Lakes Conference win at the Hawk’s Nest.
Goshen scored three pins and a tech fall in the top third of the weight classes, and Warsaw had to forfeit at 132, sacrificing 29 team points.
All of Warsaw’s team points came in sixes in a combination of pins, defaults, and forfeits. Brandon Estepp started the Tigers on the right path. The senior 182-pounder held a 12-0 lead midway through the second period before his opponent defaulted out by injury.
At 195, freshman Chase Carl was in a back-and-forth match before turning a late second period takedown into a pin fall. After the match, Goshen had a team point deducted for misconduct which put the score at a rare 12 to -1 advantage for Warsaw.
Goshen picked up a tight decision at 220, but Will Roberts picked things back up for Warsaw at 285 by earning at first period pin and pushing the team score to 18-2.
Andrew Ross got the Tigers (5-9, 1-6 NLC) back on track with a second period pin at 138 and Jacob Linky took a forfeit among the Warsaw scoring columns.
Warsaw is scheduled to return to competition on January 6 for Senior Night against Tippecanoe Valley.
