Renovations Continue At Economy Inn In Warsaw
Staff Report
WARSAW – Renovations to the Economy Inn in Warsaw, which was severely damaged by a storm in 2019, will continue into 2021.
The building along US 30, near the American Table Restaurant, lost much of its roof from high winds in a May 23, 2019, storm. The interior, which has been gutted, sustained extensive damage.
Progress in reconstructing the building was reported at the Warsaw Code Enforcement hearing held Tuesday, Dec. 15.
The project has been slowed by the pandemic, supply shortages and approval by the insurance company, according to Dana Hewitt, the city’s code enforcement inspector.
The hotel owned by Hari Om and Jay Patel represented the property at Tuesday’s meeting.
The property was under scrutiny in 2017 for code violations.
In one other case heard Tuesday, officials said progress is being made to an apartment building at 704 E. Center St.
The property had numerous violations with two of the apartments following inspections by the city building inspector, the county health department and the fire department.
Two windows, which did not meet building code standards, have been replaced and other windows will also be replaced in the future.
The property is owned by Alan Kado.
Complaints by tenants resulted in the inspections, Hewitt said.
