COLUMBIA CITY — An Albion man was recently arrested for his involvement in robbing a man; this incident resulted in the issuance of a Silver Alert for a teenager.
Geddy S. Hopkins, 28, 3354 E. CR 400S, Albion, is charged with armed robbery, a level 3 felony; and theft, a level 6 felony.
On Nov. 19, a Whitley County Sheriff’s officer went to a Columbia City residence regarding a report of a robbery where two men robbed another man at gunpoint.
The victim said that earlier in the day, around 1 p.m., he was informed that someone had entered his residence while he was not there and stole a handgun.
According to court documents, that same day around 12:30 a.m., a teenage girl knocked on his residence’s door and asked to come inside. The victim said the teenager was distraught and crying. He let the girl in and she sat down. A short time later, two men, one identified as Hopkins, entered the residence. Hopkins was armed with a baseball bat and the second man, who is unidentified in court documents, was pointing an AR-style rifle at the victim. While at the residence, the men stole money, cigarettes, food, tools and flashlights.
After the teenager was identified, officers made contact with the teenager’s parents. One of the parents then made contact with the teen, who said she was on her way home and would return in 20 minutes. After an hour, the parent called and texted her numerous times and was unable to make contact.
Dispatch later put out an attempt to locate the teenager through a Statewide Silver Alert. The Silver Alert was issued Nov. 19 and cancelled on Nov. 21, with the teenager being found safely.
Hopkins was booked in the Whitley County Jail on Nov. 21, with a $100,000 surety bond.
