Trump’s Legal Appeal
Dear Editor,
Whatever your feelings about Trump the man or Trump the President, he is a citizen of the United States of America and afforded the same rights and privileges we all enjoy. Although I have often found the President’s behaviors and statements troublesome, if the laws don’t apply to “the worst of us” then they don’t apply to any of us.
Last week, I had the privilege of volunteering at a polling location in Kosciusko County. After 23 years of voting, I can honestly say that working at the polls has given me a newfound love and appreciation for our system of government and the people that give their time to ensure we have clean and impartial elections.
When I worked at the polls on Tuesday, I stood next to men and women of both parties as we swore an oath to uphold the integrity of the election. I took this oath as an American who loves his country and believes in the majesty of democracy.
As such, I refuse to believe that other Americans who took the same oath would break it knowingly and with malice, because believing in the greatness of America means believing in the greatness of Americans.
With that said, I have the same trust and belief in the judicial system that I do in the electoral system. I don’t believe widespread fraud occurred, but that doesn’t take away from President Trump’s right to take his case before the courts and plead his case.
