Former Vice-President Joe Biden has clinched the presidency, exceeding the necessary 270 electoral votes by capturing Pennsylvania Saturday morning, Nov. 7.
Four states – North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada – have not called a winner, but Biden now leads President Donald Trump in the electoral contest, 273 to 214. (The total may continue to change as other states report later today.)
As a result of the election, Biden’s running mate, Kamala Harris, becomes the first woman to become the first vice president.
In a message posted shortly before noon Saturday, Biden tweeted:
America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country. The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not. I will keep the faith that you have placed in me.
However, Trump is not showing any signs of conceding. Earlier this morning, Trump tweeted: I WON THIS ELECTION, BY A LOT!
Trump has alleged widespread voter fraud without evidence and filed several lawsuits over election concerns since Tuesday’s election.
