Wawasee 37, Goshen 21
The WarHawk Trophy will reside in Syracuse for a year after Wawasee got the job done in what turned into a shootout.
After Goshen opened the game for a touchdown on its first play, a 70-yard touchdown pass from Colin Turner to Noah Alford, Wawasee would score the game’s next 30 points.
Parker Young and Nathan Larson scored on touchdown runs of 14 and four yards, then after Wawasee recorded a safety on a sack by Justin Castro, Young hit Zach Smith for a seven-yard touchdown pass.
Dominic Blair added a one-yard score with 5:44 left in the third quarter, giving Wawasee a 30-7 lead.
Goshen would rally with two touchdown passes from Turner, who threw for 334 yards in the game, to get the RedHawks back within nine points after the two-point try went awry.
Kam Salazar iced the game with a pick-six to close out the win.
Young finished with 179 yard passing and 33 yards rushing to lead the Warriors, which finished with 105 yards on the ground, its first 100-plus rushing game of the season.
Salazar led the receiving corps with seven catches for 48 yards and Adam Beer recorded 42 yards on two catches.
Castro had a pair of sacks and four solo tackles, part of a Warrior defense that recorded five sacks on the night.
Wawasee (3-6, 1-6 NLC) moves to the sectional round, where it will visit NorthWood next week.
Winamac 10, Triton 9
Looking to end a three-game slide, Triton went for broke and came up a play short.
A two-point attempt with 1:07 to go in the game had Winamac tackle Cole Shively short of the goal line, preserving a one-point Warrior road win.
Trace Schuh scored Triton’s only touchdown on a seven-yard scamper to set up the final conversion.
Triton scored the only points of the first half on a 38-yard field goal from Shively. Winamac tied the game with its own field goal in the third, then took the lead on a 25-yard touchdown run by Russel Compton midway through the fourth.
Schuh led the Trojans with 15 rushes for 108 yards while Lucas Cabrera led the Triton receivers with three catches for 69 yards.
Triton (3-5, 2-4 HNAC) will host its third game in a row when Churubusco visits Bourbon for the first round of the Class 1-A sectional.
