Warsaw 3, Homestead 0
After a tough weekend in greater Indianapolis, Warsaw hit the road again Monday and came home with an emphatic 25-18, 25-14, 25-16 win at Homestead.
Melaina Hawblitzel led the hit parade with 10 kills and Betty Barnett recorded six of her own. Cora West whistled three aces and added five digs, Avery Hales had 31 assists and four kills, and Kylie Smith did the defensive work again with 17 digs to go with a pair of aces.
Homestead won the JV contest 20-25, 25-21, 15-8. Jael Namfukwe provided coverage for the Tigers with four digs, four kills and two aces. Kenzie Chivington added nine assists, six kills and seven digs.
Warsaw won the freshman contest 25-8, 25-16. Colette Blackburn had four kills and three blocks for the Tigers.
Lakeland 3, Wawasee 2
A back-and-forth affair in LaGrange saw the host Lakers hold on over Wawasee in a 21-25, 26-24, 25-23, 23-25, 15-10 scoreline.
Wawasee had three in double-figure kills, led by Emma Dippon’s 14, followed by Leslie Vazquez’s 13 and Bailey Mayhew’s 11. Mayhew added 14 digs and two blocks, Vazquez had three aces and Amanda Allen sent up 39 assists.
“A good lesson for any team at this stage of the season,” began Wawasee head coach Jeff Phillips. “Weaknesses can be exposed, but it’s what we do to progress and improve that matters.”
In the JV contest, Wawasee squeaked by with a 25-15, 23-25, 15-13 victory. Zoe Taylor had a big night for the Lady Warriors with nine kills and four aces, Emma Young added 18 assists and 10 digs, and Talia Kuhl had eight digs and four aces.
