Tennis Results: Aug. 19
Wawasee 4, Lakeland 1
After a nail-biting 3-2 season-opening win over Tippecanoe Valley on Monday night, the Wawasee boys tennis team had a little more breathing room on Wednesday evening, tallying a 4-1 decision over their guests from Lakeland.
Singles winners included Holden Babb at No. 1, 6-1, 7-5, and Zeke Keim at No. 3, finishing his opponent three and one. Both doubles combinations also won their matches with the No. 1 duo of Grant Brooks and Blaine Baut going zero and three, while the second team of Devin Kuhn and Ty Brooks eking out a 7-5 first set before putting away their Laker opponents six-love in the second. Number two singles Nathan Harper dropped his match four and two.
The Warrior boys will hit the courts again on Thursday afternoon as they travel to Plymouth for their first Northern Lakes Conference matches of the season.
Elkhart 4, NorthWood 3
In a modified matchup, Elkhart defeated NorthWood by one in an all-singles showcase.
Due to Elkhart County Health Department mandates for this week, singles courts were only allowed, so the seven varsity performers played as singles courts.
NorthWood gained wins from Ben Vincent and Brad Demitruk in straight sets and Treyton Martin in three sets. The Lions won all 15 of the JV courts.
NorthWood will be off until next Thursday against Concord to open NLC play.
Huntington North 4, Warsaw 1
Warsaw dropped its season opener to the visiting Vikings. Stats for the match were not provided.
