Concord Grabs Third Tourney Title
For the third time in four tries, Concord earned a trophy for the case after taking the title at Saturday’s Wawasee Girls Golf Invite.
The Minutemen shot 340 to best Lakeland by 15 strokes and Columbia City by 25 atop the leaderboard. Concord adds the win to tourney titles at Goshen and NorthWood.
Lakeland had the medalist for the day in Madison Keil, who posted a 74, then Concord dropped in the next two with Belle Brunner at 79 and Gracie Tucker at 80. Brooke Watson added an 88 for the Minutemen.
Wawasee was fourth in the table at 391 and Whitko was sixth at 422 among the team contenders.
The hosts were led by Taylor Cripe’s 87 and a 94 from Tate Cowan. Cripe landed fifth overall in the individual tally and Cowan 13th. Rylee Firestone came in with a 97 followed by Izy Losee’s 113. Guinny Garr had a 104 to pace the Wildcats.
NorthWood Lands Third At Lapel
NorthWood wasn’t able to defend its Lapel Invite title, but still landed third in a field loaded with talent.
The Panthers compiled a 342, but were well off the pace of champion Hamilton Southeastern’s 313 and Noblesville’s 320.
The duo of Cybil Stillson and Breanna Goss led the Panthers, Stillson at 77 and Goss one back at 78. The two shot a remarkable three-under on the par-five 11th, Goss with an eagle and Stillson a birdie. Abbie Richner was one of five golfers to birdie the par-three 15th, posting a 91 overall and Riley Kitson shot a 96 for NorthWood’s fourth score.
Noblesville’s Caroline Whallon carded a 71 to lead the star-studded field and Caroline Gibson of Greenfield-Central was one shot back. Overall, 10 golfers were in the 70s for the tournament.
Warsaw 362, Chesterton 380
Consistency in its lineup benefitted Warsaw in scoring an 18-hole win over visiting Chesterton Saturday afternoon.
Warsaw’s Marie Frazzetta and Chesterton’s Katelyn McCoy went head-to-head as the No. 1s and put on a good show. Frazzetta turned in a fine score on the back nine – a 39 – to go with her front side 41 to turn in an 80 to lead the day. McCoy was level on each side, posting 42 on both sides of Pierceton Road to end at 84.
Olivia Robinson-Gay shot her best 18 score of the year, finishing at 91 and Tiger teammate Sydney Lancaster was one back at 92. Delaney Byron handed Warsaw its fourth score at 99.
Rounding out Chesterton’s scores were Addison Gentry at 93, Peyton Martinson at 98 and Miranda Miller at 105.
