SYRACUSE — NIPSCO teams were kept busy this weekend. Approximately 700 customers around Ogden Island, Eli Lilly Road, Kanata Manayunk and Johnson’s Bay were without power from approximately 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 18, through 12:14 a.m. Sunday, July, 19, due to a primary underground fault that failed at the same time there were storms in the area.
Monday morning’s power outage, which has left 1,626 customers in downtown Syracuse, was due to a squirrel getting into the substation on High Street.
Denise Conlon, public affairs manager with NIPSCO, said it wasn’t unusual for squirrels to get into substations and that power should be restored by approximately 11 a.m.
Conlon also thanked NISPCO customers for their patience as NISPCO teams worked to restore power in the area.
