PIERCETON — A Pierceton woman was arrested after battering a woman to the point where she had to go to a hospital.
Sharon Elaine Berner, 56, 24 EMS R4B1 Lane, Pierceton, is charged with domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a level 5 felony; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
On June 19, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s officer went to an area regarding a battery. Upon arrival, the officer noticed a woman laying on the ground and bleeding from her eye. The woman was also complaining of neck and head pain.
According to court documents, an individual at the scene said she and the woman went to a residence and stopped to check a mailbox. A verbal argument then ensued between the woman and Berner. During the argument, Berner allegedly drove an ATV into the woman’s vehicle. Berner then got off the vehicle and allegedly hit the woman in the face. When the woman fell to the ground, Berner continued hitting the woman.
Officers went to Berner’s residence and interviewed her about the incident. Berner admitted to hitting the woman in the face and was taken into custody.
The woman was taken to an area hospital, where her injuries were significant enough to warrant a CAT scan. As of July 2, the woman was still receiving medical treatment and it has yet to be determined whether the injuries will result in permanent damage.
Berner was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on June 19.
