Apparent Argument Over a Lighter Leads to Stabbing

WARSAW – A Warsaw man was arrested for allegedly stabbing someone in the abdomen.
Robert Lee Pickens, 43, 5505 W. CR 100S, Warsaw, was charged with battery committed with a deadly weapon.
On July 1, an officer was dispatched to the Goshen Hospital emergency room in reference to a stabbing that happened in Warsaw. The officer spoke with the victim who clearly had a knife wound to the abdomen with substantial bleeding. The victim advised the officer that the person who had stabbed him was Robert Lee Pickens was responsible. The victim said that he and Pickens were involved in a verbal altercation over a lighter at the time of the stabbing.
Once officers arrived at Pickens’ home and questioned him, he said he and the victim were fighting over a lighter and that tensions had been escalating leading up to the stabbing. However, Pickens said that the victim “fell off a chair and landed on the knife.” According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause.
After speaking with the victim, investigating officers believed the stabbing was intentional, Pickens was arrested and taken to the Kosciusko County Jail.
