Fort Wayne Philharmonic Replaces Concert With a Video Feature
News Release
FORT WAYNE – As the Fort Wayne Philharmonic had the unpleasant task of canceling Patriotic Pops concerts over the summer, its thoughts turned to those in the community.
Normally the Patriotic Pops are the philharmonic’s best-attended concerts and have very much become part of the fabric and tradition of Fort Wayne and the region. Although it could not perform for the public, the group could present people with a special video presentation that reflects the patriotism, unity and community pride the philharmonic strives to represent through the live concert experience.
Initially, the Patriotic Pops concert programmed a piece called “I Am the American Flag” by Indianapolis based composer Jim Beckel. In lieu of the concert cancellations the philharmonic decided to create this video using the composer’s at home recording and incorporate mostly local historical and contemporary imagery obtained in cooperation with The History Center, The National Archive, local photographers, and Allen County PublicLib
Fort Wayne Philharmonic will be sharing this video to the public on July 1 on its website and social media platforms at 7 p.m.
The following day they will post an interview between Jim Beckel and our Associate Conductor Caleb Young.
