GOSHEN – After making stops all over the northern half of the state, the Howard Bailey Junior Golf Tour arrived in Elkhart County Friday. The field reflected the regional effect as several locals played, and played well.
The par-71 course on Goshen’s north side saw a local take the big points as Brayden Miller of Goshen shot a 73 to win the 13-15 boys division on top of a crowded field that four within two strokes. Nappanee’s Earl Williams shot an 80 and Syracuse’s Cam Heinisch finished at 82.
The 16-19 boys division also had a relative local win the flight as Middlebury’s Ty Miller held off Bristol’s Christian Weber and Warsaw’s Ben Brander with his 77. The runner-ups had 78s. A pair of Warsaw hitters were also in the field with Seth Hildebrand at 85 and Jack Yeager at 89.
Madison Keil of LaGrange shot a sparkling 72 to win the 16-19 girls flight, using four birdies to get there. NorthWood grad Kirsten Schrock had one of her finer rounds of the summer, posting a 79 on the strength of two birdies, to finish second. Former teammate Breanna Goss was third with an 83 and Syracuse’s Belle Brunner fired an 86.
Westfield’s Brette Hanavan shot a 79 to win the girls 13-15 division.
