WARSAW — A Warsaw woman who allegedly left two minors home alone for several days has been charged with neglect.
Ashley Nichole Moody, 33, 404 N. Parker St., Warsaw, is charged with two counts of neglect of a dependent, a level 6 felony.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, an officer with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check in Kosciusko County on Tuesday, May 19.
The officer found a minor at the residence alone. The youngster told the officer that he had been at the residence with another minor for three days without seeing Moody.
The apartment was described as having trash throughout the residence. The police report states that trash cans inside the residence were overflowing, dirty dishes were strewn all over the kitchen counter, the bathroom sink, toilet and bathtub had black residue around the water lines of the appliances, the shower head was broken and there was waste in the toilet bowl. The bedrooms were cluttered with clothing and other items on the floor.
The youngster told the officer he does not have a bedroom and sleeps on the couch in the living room.
The officer received information that Moody leaves the kids for days without telling anyone she is leaving or where she is going.
When the officer spoke with Moody, she said she had not been home since Thursday, May 14, and had not checked on the children since that time. Moody reportedly said she was staying with a friend in Pierceton but did not provide further information.
Moody was booked at the Kosciusko County Jail June 24 on a $10,250 surety and cash bond.
