Driver In Fatal US 6 Accident Identified
ELKHART – The driver killed in an accident on US 6 Friday, June 19, has been identified.
Travis Newcomer, 30, of Ligonier, died in the crash that happened at about 2: 45 p.m. near the intersection of CR 37, according to a report issued by Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.
Newcomer’s 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse was hit from behind by a recreational vehicle.
Police said the 2017 Thor Miramar was traveling too fast on US 6 when it slammed into the back of Newcomer’s vehicle,
The motorhome was traveling west and approaching CR 37 when it attempted to swerve to miss Newcomer’s vehicle that had stopped at the intersection.
The driver of the motorhome, James Murdock, 54, of Fort Wayne, was taken to Goshen Hospital for a blood draw to determine if he was intoxicated.
Murdock was cited for traveling to close, the report said.
