CLAYPOOL — Emergency responders were called to an accident in Claypool at 11:33 a.m. Thursday, May 28.
The accident occurred on SR 15, south of West CR 800S, in heavy rain conditions.
According to the police report, Robert Combs, 51, Perch Drive, Silver Lake, was driving north on SR 15 in a 1999 silver Chevrolet Silverado.
Directly in front of Combs was a Dodge Durango being driven by Hayley Cooper, 30, Main Street, Warsaw.
Cooper said she was driving north on SR 15 and observed a work vehicle parked partially off the roadway in the northbound lanes of travel. She saw orange cones in the roadway and an amber warning light activated on top of the vehicle.
Cooper said she began to slow down in order to wait for southbound traffic to proceed so she could pass the vehicle safely.
Cooper’s vehicle was struck from behind by Combs’ vehicle. The force of the impact pushed her vehicle across the southbound lane of travel and into a ditch on the west side of the road.
According to the police report, the parked vehicle, a 2011 white Chevrolet Express, was facing north and partially blocking the northbound lane on SR 15. The driver of that vehicle was working on a telecommunication box in a grassy area on the east side of the road.
Combs complained of knee/lower leg pain. Cooper complained of back pain and was taken to a hospital. A passenger in Combs’ vehicle, Lydia Combs, 17, Perch Drive, Silver Lake, complained of knee/lower leg pain.
Responding agencies included Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Lutheran EMS, Claypool Fire Department, Claypool Police Department, Silver Lake Police Department, Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory, Silver Lake Fire Department and Parkview EMS.
