SILVER LAKE — A veterans’ memorial ceremony was held Saturday, May 23, at Lakeview Cemetery in Silver Lake.
Kent Harting, pastor at Center United Methodist Church in Silver Lake and Ijamsville United Methodist Church in North Manchester, was the speaker.
Harting spoke about how every crisis brings new heroes.
During the 9/11attacks, Harting said, the heroes were the first responders who ran into burning and crumbling buildings to save lives.
“As we celebrate the selflessness and untiring performances of the healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, it brings to mind the military medics, doctors and nurses who sacrificed their lives while treating others on the battlefield,” Harting said.
He asked that this Memorial Day, as we continue to honor those who fell for us in battle, that we also remember those who have sacrificed their lives while serving others.
This event was sponsored by the Silver Lake Lions Club.
Approximately 50 members of the Indiana Patriot Guard were in attendance.
