AWL Overwhelmed By Intake Of More Than 50 Dogs From Silver Lake
SILVER LAKE – The Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County is asking for donations to help with the care of 56 dogs that were taken in Tuesday night, April 7, from a home on Hilltop Lane in Silver Lake.
The removal of the dogs comes after a fire occurred at that residence Monday. Just before 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 6, Silver Lake and Claypool fire departments responded to a gas stove fire at 505 W. Hilltop Lane, Silver Lake.
A Facebook post by AWL states that they need the community’s help at this time. They are in “dire need” of towels, blankets, dishes, flea and tick medication, small breed pet food, cleaning supplies, pooper scoopers and monetary donations.
The AWL is requesting that donations be left at the side of the front doors of the red building because the office is currently closed due to the pandemic.
AWL is also in need of volunteers at this time to assist with the care of the dogs.
“Our community has always been very supportive and we appreciate it,” an excerpt from the AWL Facebook post reads.
Silver Lake officials could not be immediately reached for comment.
