Town Of Silver Lake To Receive Deed To School Building
SILVER LAKE — The old school building in Silver Lake will soon belong to the town.
Mike Baur has signed an agreement stating he will deed the property, located at 202 E. Sycamore Street, over to the town of Silver Lake for $1.
Baur purchased the building, which was slated for demolition, around 2008, voicing intent to renovate it. Following Baur’s purchase of the property, the condition of the building continued to deteriorate.
In May 2018, a hearing was held and the building was ordered to be demolished.
Members of the recently-formed Silver Lake Center Foundation have been requesting that demolition efforts be put on hold as they attempted to take ownership of the property with hopes of renovation.
Silver Lake Town Council President Chad Miner said last month that he was not okay with the idea of a third party owning the building.
“Either we just need to simply demolish it or it needs to be conveyed to the town,” Miner said at that time.
The agreement states that in exchange for ownership of the property, the town agrees to waive any fines, fees, liens and other adverse actions.
The agreement also states that Baur may retrieve items from the property until April 31.
