Richner Breaks PFW Single Round Record
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Linnzie Richner broke Purdue Fort Wayne women’s golf’s 18-hole program record on Tuesday, shooting a 69 in her final round at the Benbow Invitational.
The senior shot 80-69-149 to finish the week in a tie for third place overall. She finished just three shots back of Youngstown State’s Puthita Khuanrudee, who was the medalist with a 76-70-146.
Purdue Fort Wayne as a team had one of its best outings in the history of the program on Tuesday as well, as the Mastodons shot 302, which is the fourth-best 18-hole score of any Mastodon squad. This mark was just one stroke shy of the season-best 301 that was set in the opening week of the season at the Golfweek Program Championship. As a team, Purdue Fort Wayne finished in fourth, tied with Radford. The ‘Dons shot 322-302-624.
In her best round as a Mastodon, Richner had a bogey-free 18 holes. She was able to hole out for birdies on the par-5 second and par-3 14th to go with her 16 pars. Richner, a 2016 NorthWood High School graduate, was a two-time state qualifier and set eight program records as a Panther.
Holly Anderson finished in a tie for 16th with a 79-77-156. Emma Schroeder carded 82-77-159 for a tie for 23rd. Laura Caetano was one shot back with an 81-79-160 for 29th. Kennedy Brooker shot 86-89-175 and took a tie for 72nd place. Luiza Caetano played as an individual, finishing in 82nd place with a 96-91-187.
St. John’s was the team champion, as the Red Storm carded 309-296-605. Purdue Fort Wayne will conclude their spring break week at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate on Sunday (March 15) in Sevierville, Tennessee. That event will be hosted by Tennessee Tech.
