Child Support Division Process Changes For Coronavirus
WARSAW — The Kosciusko County Prosecuting Attorneys Office, Child Support Division, is implementing a new procedure in response to the Center for Disease Control’s directive of limiting personal contact due to the Coronavirus COVID-19.
On most Fridays, the Child Support Division has between 50 and 100 people required to personally appear for Court hearings at the Kosciusko County Justice Building.
Robert J. Bishop, deputy prosecuting attorney in charge of the Child Support Division, said, “Many of these cases can be handled electronically without the need for a participant to personally appear.”
If a person has received an Order to Appear on a child support case with the Kosciusko County Prosecuting Attorney, the person should email [email protected]. The Child Support Division will then reply to the person with specific instructions, along with documentation that the person must complete on-line. The person must have the document completed and returned to the Child Support Division prior to the day of the hearing.
The Child Support Division will then review the completed documentation and, if satisfactory, will then reschedule the court hearing to another date. The person will, subsequently, receive an email of the new court hearing date from the Child Support Division. If the person does not receive an acknowledgement from the Child Support Division, the person must appear at the Justice Building, as ordered.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Bishop indicated, “This new procedure is just one more example of the many proactive techniques used by the Kosciusko County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Child Support Division, to effectively oversee our caseload, which exceeds 3,000 child support cases.”
For the past two years, the Child Support Division has been recognized for exceeding the national and state performance averages set by federal guidelines.
