WARSAW – An East Market Street house, facing a demolition order, is on the verge of being sold.
The house at 1015 E. Main St., Warsaw, owned by Jason and Bobby Wade, has been an issue for code enforcement in recent years when it was home to a scrapping business. While that issue was mitigated, code enforcement officials found more than a dozen problems inside the home that made it uninhabitable.
On Tuesday, March 10, Code Enforcement Officer Dana Hewitt announced at a code enforcement hearing that the home was scheduled to be sold as of March 14 through a real estate firm that had lined up a buyer.
Hewitt said the prospective buyers intend to take swift action by cleaning up the interior as soon as the property is sold.
The Wades were briefly jailed after they were found in contempt last year over the ongoing code enforcement issues.
Hewitt said neighbors were ecstatic to learn it was being sold.
Hewitt said the demolition order would be set aside while the new owners attempt to bring the house up to code.
In other matters, the city learned:
- Improvements to the exterior at Little Crow Lofts are still pending. Other problems with the ceiling and elevator have been fixed, according to Julie McCartney, a representative of the company that owns the apartments.
- A representative for the Economy Inn, US 30 East, said roof work has been completed and that remodeling of the interior will begin after an appraisal is complete. The hotel was severely damaged by high winds in 2019.
- An inspection will be sought for a home at 2231 E. Jefferson St., where a chimney was removed but the siding was not used to finish the job. That house and an adjoining property owned by the same firm are both under scrutiny. The second house has had problems with excessive garbage. Hewitt said they’ve been unable to contact the owner.
