Richard Shot Sinks Trojans
BOURBON – Scoring was at a premium Saturday night at the Trojan Trench. Michael Richard scored when it mattered most.
Richard hit a runner with 1.4 seconds left to lift Argos to a 28-26 win over Triton to claim the Class 1-A Sectional 50 title.
Richard worked around the end with five seconds left and sent a runner to the rim, getting the shot to fall. Triton didn’t have a timeout as the clock expired, sending the Dragons to its eighth sectional championship and second straight regional appearance at the hands of the Trojans.
The game was just 11-7 Argos at the half and 19-15 after three quarters in favor of the Dragons. Triton would tie the game at 26 when Ashton Oviedo hit two free throws with 27.3 seconds left, setting up the final sequence for Richard’s heroics.
Sam Manikowski led Argos with nine points and three assists and Richard finished with six points.
Triton (14-11) had Oviedo end with nine points, Tyson Yates had seven points and Tyler Heckaman had six points and six rebounds.
Argos (16-9) will meet Caston in the second game of the Triton Regional next Saturday.
