Spring Forward For Daylight Saving Time Sunday
WARSAW — Set your clocks forward Saturday night and prepare to lose an hour.
Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8.
The city of Warsaw also recommends that everyone check and replace batteries in their smoke detectors, according to a post on its Facebook page.
Batteries in smoke detectors should be changed once a year at the least.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, the hour of sleep that’s lost or gained due to Daylight Saving Time may leave some feeling groggy and irritable.
Getting enough sleep is an important factor in adjusting to the change. Most adults need seven to nine hours of sleep per night, according to the Mayo Clinic. Children and teens typically require as much as 13 hours of sleep per night.
An article by the Cleveland Clinic also offered tips on adjusting to the time change.
- The clinic recommended that those affected by the time change go to bed 10 to 15 minutes earlier than normal. This would give their bodies extra time to make up for the lost hour of sleep.
- The clinic recommended maintaining a consistent schedule for sleep, eating, exercise, work and leisure.
- Avoid long naps during the day, according to the clinic. Longer naps during the day will adversely affect sleep and adjusting to the time change.
- Finally, the clinic recommends those affected by the time change to avoid caffeine or alcohol at least one hour before bedtime. Both affect quality sleep patterns.
